Times Amateur Boxing Show - Business Design Centre, May 2007.

The Times ABC is delighted to announce that the Business Design Centre, Upper Street, Islington, will host our upcoming dinner show on 11th May 2007. The evening marks a welcome return for amateur boxing at this prestigious venue, after an absence of nearly 50 years.

The first bout will begin at 8pm with the last no later than 11pm. Each bout consists of three 2 minute rounds and is conducted under the strict guidelines of the ABA.

Dave Ryan - Postman of the Year 2007!

Swift on the heels of his success at the BBC Sports Personality of Year awards, Dave (2nd from left) was this month honoured as Royal Mail’s “Postman of the Year”. This award recognises not only of his prowess as a postman, but also at his ability to combine this role so successfully with his voluntary work at the Times ABC over the last 30 years.

Times ABC win big at National Sporting Club show, Cafe Royal

The Times Amateur Boxing Club were today announced as the major winners of the National Sporting Club’s December Dinner Show at the Savoy Hotel. Whilst the evening brought stylish victories for rising Ugandan super-middleweight Joey Vegas and Scotland’s Stuart Green, it was the King-Cross based amateur boxing club that last night emerged as the evening’s major beneficiaries, following generous donations from the event’s promoter Mickey Helliet and the Mayfair Sporting Club.

"Having grown up on the Cally Road myself, I’ve seen the work the Times ABC do first hand, and it’s nice to be able to give something back to the community." Mickey Helliet said last night, "The club is a critical outlet for young people in this area, and if we’re serious about offering provision for youngsters in inner-city areas and developing the next generation of sporting talent, then we need to make sure clubs like the Times are able to endure and prosper."

The money raised will help to fund the Times ABC’s forthcoming exhibition match with a select Spanish amateur team in Tenerife in March 2007, as well as a representative French squad in Monte Carlo later in the year.

Dave Ryan - BBC Sports Personality 2006!

Head Coach Dave Ryan has been the heartbeat of the Times ABC for the last 30 years, and this week received nationwide recognition for his efforts, finishing runner-up in the BBC Sports Personality "Unsung Hero" category 2006.
